It’s been a big week of learning. Over the past two days, Brisbane hosted another unforgettable Xerocon – and if I had to sum up the overwhelming emotion of the event in one word, it would be happiness.
There was this wonderful sense of collective relief and joy. It felt like bookkeepers and accountants across Australia had not only survived another tough EOFY but had come together to celebrate the resilience, hard work, and dedication it took to get through it. The smiles, laughter, and energy in the room were absolutely infectious.
What really struck me was that as more than half the 3000+ attendees were at their very first Xerocon, there seemed to be a fresh spark of excitement. It reminded me why this event is so special – it’s more than just a conference; it’s a gathering of people who truly get each other.
Over the two days, collaboration was everywhere. Interactive workshops had us rolling up our sleeves, sharing ideas, and learning together. We heard inspiring stories from both industry leaders and outside speakers who pushed us to dig deep, believe in ourselves, and keep aiming for greatness.
Of course, no Xerocon is complete without some big announcements. New software updates, like being able to pay suppliers from within the software, promise to make our client work more streamlined and I can’t wait to play with the new Partner Hub. And the app partner chats? They got our brains buzzing with fresh possibilities, sparking conversations about how we can adapt, grow, and innovate in our own practices.
And then there’s the magic ingredient: the people. Networking at Xerocon is unlike anything else – connecting with like-minded peers who understand your daily challenges, who cheer you on, and who are quick to swap advice (and a few laughs). This sense of community is rare, and it’s a big part of why I love what I do.
I came home feeling inspired, fulfilled, and ready to tackle whatever comes next.
Oh – and my absolute favourite moment? Without a doubt, a room full of accountants and bookkeepers singing along (loudly) to every word of Teenage Dirtbag at the Safari Glitterati After party. If that doesn’t sum up the heart, soul, and joy of this profession, I don’t know what does.
